This month of January has hits users with the latest Google domination, the Nexus One touch-screen smart phone that has been launched from the valley search giant. Some experts say that this Android 2.1 phone from Google is the true, cruel rival for the apple iPhone that has reached billion of dollars in sale worldwide. But there is a catch. The new phone called Nexus One provides better features such as speed improvements, higher pixel camera capibilities, and what not, you can buy the unlock version for just $529. You can’t buy the unlock version of iPhone officially, unless you do it by yourself.
By weight
This smart phone is super light in weight with just 130 grams with battery, while the iphone 3G is 133 grams and 3Gs with 135 grams. Nexus One is the winner here.
Camera Resolution
Talking about camera on phone, Google is doing something about it. Sergey and Larry puts on 5 MP camera on their latest gadget, but Steve Jobs is satisfied with his 3Gs 3 mega-pixels lens. Again, the google phone has a win. Now, 2-0. Plus, the Nexus has built-in flash which iPhone doesn’t.
Display Size
Well, you either go big or go home. With 3.7-inch diagonal touch screen and 800 x 480 screen resolutions, Nexus One wins easily, over the 3.5-inch display iPhone 3Gs, with just 480-by-320 pixels resolutions. Sorry to say, Google wins 3 against nothing from Apple so far.
Apps Store
The Android market is still new but it has attracts thousands of developers to work on its open-source Android system. While on other hands, Apple tops with more than 100,000 apps in it’s store. Google is playing catch with currently providing 15 000 to 20 000 of applications on their market. Apple is the clear cut winner as Google is still running with the baton. Google 3, Apple 1.
Developers-Friendly Phone
How friendly is Google to its programmer and apps developers compared to the iPhone Apps Store submission guidelines? Rob Enderle, principal analyst from a San Jose, Calif.-based technology research firm says Android open-source platform is very friendly to developers. An Android app developer can create an app and see it instantly available. However, Apple app developers need to get approval first, a process that takes roughly 2 weeks. Now, the lead is bigger with 4-1.
Usability and User Friendliness
We love the multi-touch ability of the iPhone, that makes the phone a unique one in this niche market. The multitouch allows users to rotate, pinch and zoom or un-zoom the display with their hands. Unfortunately, Google does not invest in multi-touch screen and it lacks the usability of it. Apple gets one point more. 4-2.
Speed Test
Google loves speed, just look at their search engine ability that delivers thousands results in miliseconds. Thus, they house Qualcomm’s latest SnapDragon processor, that makes the Nexus runs at 1GHz while the old apple walks with only 600MHz.
Do-it-Yourself Criteria
Users have better advantage when using the Nexus phone as they able to remove and replace the battery by themselves. This might not be a big deal, but for some people, it is a big deal! Apple iPhone does not allow that. You need a special kit to open the back aluminum case or spend few bucks on sending it to the shops. Poor Apple iphone..
Final Score:
NEXUS ONE 6 – 2 IPHONE
